Carpenter Bee Description:

Adult Body length is about 1/2 to an inch.  They feed on pollen and nector.  Carpenter Bees overwinter as adults in old nest galleries.  They mate in April early May.  The male has a yellow face and the female is black.  Carpenter Bees nest in wood while Bumble Bees nest in the ground.  Carpenter Bees make nests by tunneling into wood.  Each nest has a single entrance; however, the nest may have adjacent tunnels.  Carpenter bees do not eat wood, but they use the frass to build walls within the nest as partitions for each of thier eggs.  Carpenter Bees resemble bumble bees, but Carpenter Bee abdomens are bare and shiny black.  Bumble Bees have a hairy abdomen with some kinds of yellow markings

Treatment Methods:

Professionals detect a Carpenter Bee infestation by identifying round holes about 1/2 inch in diameter, and saw dust called frass underneath the holes. Old nest can be used year after year by carpenter bees.  Holes are usually found on the underside of wood surfaces including soffits, decks, fence posts, window frames, ect.  Females are the only bees that have the capacity to sting, but they are not aggressive.  Females tend to nest in all types of wood, but they prefer weathered non-painted wood.  Females tend to begin boring nesting areas in late spring and early summer.

Pest Control Equipment
Carpenter Bee
DeltaDust is a pest control product that controls carpenter bees.  It is one of the best products to use outside because of its water resistant capabilities.  Active ingredient is Deltamethrin.  Use a Hand Bellow (sold separately) and apply the dust into the Carpenter Bee Hole.  Two or three sqeezes of the J.T. Eaton hand bellow should be adequate per nesting area.

MotherEarth D.  Try our green pest control product.  This product is another dust formulation that control Carpenter bee infestations.  Place MotherEarth into carpenter bees galleries to treat infestation.  A J.T. Eaton hand bellow is recommended for precise placement of dust formulations.
AMD Pest Control
The Carpenter Bee Kit contains a J.T. Eaton hand bellow to deliver the dust product into the nesting areas.  Fill the hand bellow 2/3 of the way full, and turn upside down where the metal rod is on top and sqeeze two or three times per hole.  Delta Dust will begin to control these bees within minutes.  Once Carpenter Bee activity has been eliminated, use your 1/2 inch triple seal plugs to seal the holes.  Bifen I/T can be used to control future infestations.
Conquer is another liquid insecticide that works great on controlling carpenter bee infestations.  This product is in concentrated form, and will mix 16 gallons of finished product.  It comes in a easy tip and measure container.

How to get rid of Carpenter Bees
You can use residual (has long term protection) liquid insecticides Tempo Ultra SC, Suspend SC, Bifen IT, or Conquer before the season begins, but before boring of the wood has begun.  If boring of the wood has already commenced, use a J.T. Eatons hand bellow.  Fill 2/3 of the way full.  It would be a good idea to use a mask, and turn the hand bellow, so the metal rod is above the chemical chamber and squeeze two or three times in each hole.  Do not seal until season is complete.  Then caulk or putty and paint or seal areas of infestation.  We also provide a carpenter bee kit that includes all the necessary equipment and chemicals.
