Brief Biology:

Earwigs are brown and black insects with two "pinchers" pointing inward from their tail.  Earwigs are about 1/2 to an inch in length.  Earwigs usually hide in crack and crevices during the day and feed at night.  Earwigs are scavengers and occassionally feed on plants.  They have an unpleasant odor when crushed.  Usually they remain under soil or landscape.  During the night, they will move to light sources and eat at night.  Occasional invaders. 

Treatment Methods:

 Earwigs are attracted to moist areas.  They gain access through windows, door frames, and  foundations.  You can use Liquid Insecticides, Dusts, and Granular formulations to treat for an Earwig infestation.  For liquid insecticidesTempo Ultra SC, Suspend SC, Cykick CS, or demand CS.  You want to use one of these products because of their micro-encapulation properties.  Micro-encapulation products allows the chemical to sit on porous surfaces without penetration.  For example, brick veneer and concrete are porous surfaces.  These pest control products can be used interior and exterior perimeter, broadcast, or crack and crevice treatments.  Dust formulations (DeltaDust) can be used as a crack and crevice residual treatment.  A J.T. Eaton hand bellow is preferred when applying dust formulations.  Where carpet meets the wall, insert your hand bellow and apply in the wall.  No more than one or two squeezes of the product is sufficient.  Do apply to much dust because the pest will steer away from mountains of product.  For the Exterior treatment use liquid insecticide, 3 feet on the foundation and 3 feet off the foundation with a fan spray.  Then using a hand spreader, apply granulars Talstar PL,Demand G, or Eco Exempt G, around the exterior of the structure.  Make sure you spread approximately 10 feet off the foundation around the entire structure being treated and water the granules to activate.   Fire Brats can be treated in the same manner.
