Brief Biology:

House Flies are found in thehome during the summer months.  These flies develop in garbage, manure, or animal carcass.  These can transmit disease because the flies drop their eggs in the garbage or manure, then move back to locations to search for food.  Sometimes on your food.  So the flies are commonly contaminated with disease causing bacteria, including those related to food poisoning.

Treatment Methods:

Exclusion by sceening the structure may help with fly infestsations.  Moving garbage cans to another location that is not located near an entrance to the structure may help decrease fly activity.  

You can use Fly Traps, UV lights w/ glueboards, Fly Bait, or Aerosols for chemical control measures.  You want to place these traps in areas of high concentration of flies or entry locations to buildings.  When using baits, you want to place the baits on resting area surfaces to control populations.  Treatments of drains are also important to break down the organic material to eliminate their food source inside the home.  Their are contact sprays and liquid insecticides you can use as well.
