Brief Biology:

Silverfish and firebrats are flat, with elongated bodies.  They are 1/3 to 3/4 inch in length, and they have three long, antennae-like (or hair-like) appendages at the rear.  Silverfish and Firebrats feed on wallpaper paste, bookbindings, glue, cotton, linens, cereal, dried meats, and leather.  They will also feed on dead insects.  Silverfish and Firebrats are greyish in color.  Female Silverfish lay over 100 eggs during their lifetime.  Eggs are laid two or 3 at a time hatching within 3-6 weeks.  Young Silverfish resemble adults.  Adults can live up to 8 years.  Silverfish live in damp cool places like basements, laundry rooms, around bathtubs, sinks while Firebrats live in warmer humid places like attics during the summer or near fireplaces or heat pipes during the colder months.  Firebrats produce 50 eggs at one time in several batches.  Eggs will hatch in about 2 weeks in the right conditions.  These pest can infest the home being introduced to the home by furniture, books, papers, old starched clothing are some examples.

Treatment Methods:
